
India Club Inc. is a voluntary organization of progressive people of Indian origin and Australians, established for benefit of the members and operates to promote worthy interests of Indian Australian community. Recently they organized Diwali celebrations in Castle Grand in Castle Hill on November 6, 2009. The program was attended by the members of the Indian Community in Australia and the members of the Australian public who love India and its culture. The inaugural speech was given by Ms Shubha Kumar, President India Club and was followed by speeches from Mr. Michael Richardson, Member of Parliament from Castle Hill and the Deputy Mayor of the Hill Shire Council Mr. Mike Thomas.
In his speech Mr. Richardson praised the contribution of the Indian community to the Australian economy and culture and talked of the growing links between the two economies. He touched on the fact that no nation in the world can now afford to ignore India and its growing economic power. On a lighter vein Mr. Richardson talked about the competitive one day cricket series in progress between the countries and the superlative innings of Sachin Tendulkar on October 5 2009, wherein he scored 175 runs and almost single handedly took the match away from the Australians. Mr. Richardson ended his speech congratulating India Club for organizing an entertaining event that allows members of the community to bond together.
Mr. Mike Thomas addressing the gathering, touched upon the presence of the Indian community in the Hill Shire Council area and their contributions to the society. He concluded by congratulating the organizers.
The guests at the function were provided authentic aromatic Indian cuisine from the Kitchens of the “Maya da Dhaba” that was savored by one and all. The cultural program that ensued after the speeches and entree was coordinated by Ms. Aishwarya Nidhi from Abhinay School of Performing Arts. Troupe members of the school also presented dance items at the event. The evening was enjoyed by everyone present.
